Obituary of Henry "Hank" G. Lerche

Age 88, of Mt. Morris, died Monday, August 18, 2014. The funeral service will take place 1:00pm, Friday, August 22, 2014, at the Martin Funeral, Cremation & Tribute Services in Mt. Morris, Michigan, with burial to follow in Flint Memorial Park. Hank’s family will be present to receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, from 11:00 am until 8:00 pm. On Friday, from 11:00 am until time of service at 1:00 pm. Those desiring may consider memorial contributions to the Shriners Hospital for Children. Envelopes are available at the funeral home. Henry was born September 26, 1925, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, the son of Mr. & Mrs. Floyd and Ruth (Platt) Lerche. He married Elizabeth King in Mt. Morris on September 2, 1950. Sadly she preceded him in death on March 18, 1995. He graduated from Mt. Morris High School, Class of 1942. He attended University of Michigan – Ann Arbor before transferring to Flint Junior College. Henry proudly served in the United States Air Force for 5 years until receiving his honorable discharge. He worked at General Motors for 39 years until retiring in 1982. Hank enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, traveling to Boyne City, Lake Charlevoix and to Harrisville. He was a long time member of the Gordon R. Bennett VFW Post #1452, Shriners Circus Park – Highlanders, 40&8, Voiture 1116 in Flint and Mt. Morris Masonic Lodge #535. Left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Ann Lerche and husband, Greg Gibbs; son, Walter and wife, Louann Lerche; six grandchildren, Alec Gibbs and partner, Kyle Peppin, Mitchell Lerche, Kathryn Lerche and fiancé, Matthew Purves, Emily Gibbs, Courtney Trenerry and fiancé, Brent Pfefferl and Katie “Wee Kate” and husband, Chuck Neeley; four great-grandchildren, Aidan, Wayne, Izabel and Charles J.; sister, Jane and husband, George Taylor; and special friends, Pam Gilliam and Mike Taylor. Henry was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Elizabeth and half brother, Ed Hawke.
