SLATTERY, Vera (Vanera) V. Age 73, of Mt. Morris, died Saturday, September 13, 2014, at her home. Mass of Christian Burial will take place 11:00 am, Wednesday, September 17, 2014, at St. Mary Catholic Church of Mt. Morris. Rev. Fr. Thomas Nenneau will officiate with cremation to follow. Vera’s family will be present at the Martin Funeral, Cremation and Tribute Services in Mt. Morris on Monday from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm, Tuesday from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm and again from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm. On Tuesday evening, family, friends and parish, will gather at the funeral home for a Scriptural Rosary at 6:00 pm. On Wednesday morning, Vera will be taken to church to lie in state from 10:00 am until the time of Funeral Mass at 11:00 am. Those desiring may direct memorial contributions to St. Mary’s School. Envelopes are available at the funeral home and church. Vera was born November 22, 1940, in Otisville, Michigan, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas A. and Adeline (Vicare) Vanadia. She graduated from St. Mary’s School with the Class of 1957. On July 19, 1958, Vera and Michael B. Slattery were united in marriage at St. Mary’s in Mt. Morris. At St. Mary’s, Vera was a member of the Altar Society, the Emmanuel Prayer Group and served as an Extraordinary Minister. Vera was a kind and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend to many. She will be greatly missed. Left to cherish her memory are: her husband of 56 years, Michael B. Slattery, four children; Michael Slattery, Shawn and wife, Gloria Slattery, Thomas and wife, Johanne Slattery, and Alisa and husband, Tedd Schummer, six grandchildren; Michael and wife, Michaela Slattery, Jacob Slattery, Samantha and husband, Matthew Schwartz, Natalie and husband, Matthew Gapinski, Erin and Kieran Slattery, and Cody and Lucas Schummer, two great-grandsons; Emerson Slattery and Evan Schwartz, brothers and sisters; Mary Lou Morse, Pat Dimenski, Josephine Brandt, and Leo and wife, Chris Miller, brothers and sister-in-law; Bob Slattery, Bill and wife, Jean Slattery, Margaret Head, and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends. Vera was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Adeline, and several brothers and sisters. The family would like to extend a special thank you to St. Mary’s Emmanuel Prayer Group, Dr. Julia Sawade, the staffs of Genesys Heart Institute, Fostrian Manor, Reverence Hospice.
