After graduating from high school, she would go on to attend Northern Michigan University in Marquette, where she studied to be a teacher. As a young woman, Mary would meet John C. Linton. The young couple dated, fell in love and were united in marriage on July 10, 1954 at First Presbyterian Church in Calumet. Mary’s career path would see her become a teacher, though she enjoyed that, she and John soon began a family and this became her focus in life. Throughout the years, she would resume working from time to time as a substitute teacher as well as a salesperson, but she always worked this around taking care of her family. She loved them dearly and will be greatly missed by all her life has touched. Left to cherish her memory are: her husband of 61 years, John C. Linton, three daughters; Bonnie, and husband Bob Duncan, Nancy, and husband Eric McArthur and Elizabeth (Linton) Elliott, five grandchildren; Jarrad Duncan, Linton McArthur, Lee McArthur, Graham Elliott and Jack Elliott, a great-grandson, Coleman Duncan, sister-in-law, Claire Orr, and her nieces, grand nephews and great-grand nieces and nephews. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Fred Orr, and sister, Bette (Hore) Kaiser.
