Daniel Arthur Case was born on June 21, 1949, in Flint, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur and Jeanne (Buckberro) Case. Educated locally, Dan graduated from Clio High School in 1967. Upon graduation, Dan would attend classes at Mott Community College before being drafted by the United States Army. Specialist Case heeded that call of duty in the United States Army proudly serving from March 5, 1969 To October 8, 1970. He would remain vigil within the Standy Reserves until earning his honorable discharge on March 1, 1975.
During his time in the service, Specialist Case was assigned to the 214th Aviation Regiment, working as a UH-1 Helicopter Mechanic. Specialist Case was decorated with a National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and the Vietnam Campaign Medal. Upon returning to civilian life, Dan would work as a press operator for General Motors in the quality control department from February 6, 1968 until his well-earned retirement on November 1, 1998. He was a long-time member of UAW local #599. He met, fell in love with, and married the love of his life, Marsha Rae Tyree on December 15, 1979, at West Vienna United Methodist in Clio. Together, they had a son that Dan would cherish deeply.
Dan enjoyed keeping busy in many ways in his free time. Skilled with his hands, Dan would utilize his woodworking skills by building various furniture pieces and completing renovations around his long-time home. He also enjoyed “tinkering” with varying electronics and tools to see what he could create. Additionally, he found joy in SKYWARN storm spotting with his wife, learning to play the guitar and keyboard, and researching different paranormal phenomena. Dan was also a long-time licensed Ham Radio Operator, being known by many for his call sign of WQ8F. On top of all this, Dan also served for two terms on the Thetford Township Zoning Board of Appeals. Even living a busy life, he always made sure to prioritize his family.
Left to cherish his memory is his beloved wife of 45 years, Marsha Case; son, Michael Case and partner, Elizabeth Kelly; two grandchildren: Paige and Quillan Case; sister, Delores “Suzie” Bearup and husband, Keith; siblings-in-law: Donald Goldsmith, Rick Tyree, Connie Tyree Pate, Gregory Tyree, and Karen Zovishlack; his best friends: Paul Jackson and wife, Charlotte, Dave Jackson and wife, Betty; his dog, Jellybean; as well as many cherished family members and friends.
Dan was preceded in death by his parents: Arthur and Jeanne Case; brother, Dennis Case; brother-in-law, Kenneth Pate; and his canine companions: Sydney, Teddy, Peanut, Annie, and Homer.
