Dennis Michael Sabo was born on February 9, 1945, in Flint, Michigan, to Alexis and Irene (Harris) Sabo. He earned an associate degree in Criminal Justice with honors from Mott Community College, beginning a distinguished career dedicated to law enforcement and serving his community. Throughout his career, Dennis served in various law enforcement roles, advancing from patrolman to detective sergeant. He began with the Genesee County Sheriff’s Department before serving with the Mt. Morris City and Clio Vienna police departments. He later worked with CARTT (Certified Auto Recovery Theft Team) and GAIN (Genesee Auto-Theft Investigation Network), where he played an instrumental role in writing grants and served as a detective for both organizations. He ultimately returned to the Genesee County Sheriff’s Department, where he concluded his career in retirement.

Dennis was an accomplished competitive revolver marksman, earning recognition from the Michigan Police Combat Pistol Association as one of the Governor’s Top 20 law enforcement competitors. Dennis was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and the Fraternal Order of Police Arrowhead Lodge 126, where he served as a trustee. He was also involved with the Michigan Duck Hunters Association, Ducks Unlimited, and served as a Cub Scout den leader. In his free time, Dennis enjoyed hunting, fishing, antiquing, reading, and watching Fox News. Above all, he treasured spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, who he loved dearly.

Dennis is survived by his children: Tonya (Cary) and Matthew; grandchildren: Jacqlyn (Derik), Alex, Konrad, and Kristof; sister, Karen; niece and nephew: Amber and Ricky; former spouse and the mother of his children, Terry; brother in-law, Bob; special friends: Dave and Cindy Gillie and their family; the Craglow family; and many beloved extended family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Alexis and Irene; and nephew, Rick.

Dennis will be remembered as a dedicated, amazing, and loving father and grandfather who always put others before himself. His family was the center of his world, and he took great pride in being there for them through every stage of life. He had a generous heart, a warm spirit, and a genuine concern for others, always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. Whether through a kind word, a thoughtful gesture or gift, or his steady support, Dennis made a meaningful difference in the lives of those around him.

His commitment to his family, his community, and those he served was evident in all that he did and will remain a lasting part of his legacy. He will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Thomas Bossi and the many dedicated healthcare professionals who provided such exceptional and compassionate care throughout his journey. A very special thank you to the Medical Team Hospice and the staff at Lavigne Home for Compassionate Care, whose kindness, dignity, and unwavering compassion brought comfort and peace to both him and our family during his final days. Your care and kindness will never be forgotten.
