Don was born March 31, 1949, in Pontiac; he is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Carl and Betty (Melchert) Rouse. Educated locally, Don attended Oxford High School, until the 9thgrade when he would begin working for his dad. As a young man, Sergeant Rouse heeded the call of duty, enlisting in the United States Army on June 20, 1967. Sergeant Rouse often shared many stories regarding his time in the Army and always reflected on one thing, the Army saved his life by giving him a sense of purpose and direction. During his time in service, Sergeant Rouse earned his National Defense Service Medal and was an Expert with the M-14 Rifle. Stationed at Fort Benning, Georgia, Sergeant Rouse took pride in training new recruits until receiving his honorable discharge on June 19, 1970. Upon returning to civilian life, Don would eventually meet the love of his life, Kathleen. The two dated, fell in love and were united in marriage on October 16, 1983, at Howarth United Methodist Church in Lake Orion. Don was a Member of Bethany Pentecost Tabernacle Church, sang at church functions, he enjoyed playing computer games, reading the Bible, completing crossword puzzles, and camping with his family. Don was a strong, independent leader and co-owner of KMR Masonry. He never met a stranger and seemed to always attract new friends.
Left to cherish his memory, his loving wife, Kathy; five children: numerous grandchildren; great-grandchildren; four brothers; and many other family members and friends.
