Douglas Pope, of Flint, age 83, passed away, March 16, 2026, at the Regency of Grand Blanc. A funeral service will take place 1:00 pm, Saturday, March 21, 2026, at Martin Funeral, Cremation & Tribute Services in Mt. Morris. Doug’s family will be present at the funeral home to receive friends from 11:00 am until the time of the service at 1:00 pm. Pastor Bill Christensen officiating with burial to follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Clio. Expressions of sympathy may be placed on Doug’s tribute page on martinfuneralhome.com.
Douglas “Doug” was born in Atlanta, Georgia, on September 26, 1942; he is the son of Armend James Houde and Thena Buck. Shortly after moving to Michigan, Doug would meet the love of his life, Joan “Joani” Woodby while working at a box manufacturing facility. The couple dated, fell in love and were united in marriage on May 26, 1968. Sadly, Joani preceded him in death on Tuesday, December 28, 2021. Doug began working at Fisher Body in 1969. He would later transfer to Buick City, retiring in the early 2000s. In his free time, Doug enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He also enjoyed playing Bingo, singing Karaoke, listening to music, collecting model trains, and attending service at Trinity Assembly of God.
Left to cherish his memory are sister-in-law, Wendy (Tom Mosher) Schooley; nephews: Rick Horton, Jerry (Amanda) Horton; brothers-in-law: Morley (Beth) Bradford, Larry Woodby, Rex Woodby; niece, Saprine Armstrong, long-time friends: Joan Corwin, and Kimberly Weiderhold; many other nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and great-great-nieces and nephews.
Doug was preceded in death by his mom and stepdad: Thena and Gene Travis Shaw; wife, Joani; brothers: Curtis and John Pope, sisters: Ann Arnold, Bernice Sumner, Earnestine Houde, Marie Etheridge, Lorene Eunice (Pope) Cunningham; father-in-law & mother-in-law, Bernard and Lucille Woodby.
