Age 66, of Almont, passed away on Monday, October 13, 2025. A Memorial Mass will take place at 11:00am on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, at St. Mary Catholic Church, 11110 Saginaw Street, Mount Morris, Michigan. Rev. Fr. Roy Horning to officiate, with burial to follow at Great Lakes National Cemetery. Family will be present to receive friends from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Monday, October 20, 2025, at Martin Funeral, Cremation & Tribute Services, 1194 East Mount Morris Road, Mount Morris, Michigan. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be considered to the Wounded Warriors Project or the Karmanos Cancer Research Foundation. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home and at church. Gil Norman Blasdell was born on February 6, 1959, in Flint, Michigan, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Robert and Marjorie (Lokken) Blasdell Sr. Gil graduated from Fenton High School in 1978. Shortly after graduating, Gil heeded the call of duty, enlisting in the United States Army on July 31, 1978. During his time in service, Specialist Blasdell was assigned to the 5th Infantry Division and worked as a Cannon Crewman. Specialist Blasdell was decorated with an Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, M-16 Marksmanship Badge, Good Conduct Medal, and the Non-Commissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon. On February 11, 1985, Gil earned his honorable discharge while stationed in Fort Polk, Louisiana. Upon returning to civilian life, Gil worked as a truck driver for J.B. Hunt. On October 16, 1999, he met, fell in love with, and married the love of his life, Deborah Atwell. Gil was blessed with two children and two step-children, to whom he cherished deeply. Gil loved spending time outdoors, often hunting with his wife and children. Additionally, he would travel all over with his wife and visit new areas. In his free time, Gil enjoyed woodworking and creating beautiful furniture pieces and watching football. Most of all, Gil enjoyed spending time with his family, creating memories he would cherish forever.
Left to cherish his memory is his beloved wife of 25 years: Deborah Atwell-Blasdell; his two children: Gil Blasdell Jr. and wife, Haley, and Joanna Blasdell; his two step-children: Nathan Atwell and wife, Stacy, Hannah Swan and husband, Nick; his six grandchildren: Cody, Samantha, Henry, Ruby, Drake, Reid; his brothers: Bill Blasdell, Steve Blasdell, Marvin Blasdell; as well as his dearest friends: Loretta and Craig Kirbitz.
Gil was preceded in death by his parents: Robert and Marjorie Blasdell Sr; his brother: Robert Blasdell Jr; and his two sisters: Pamela Wheeler and Sharon Clark.
