Joan “Billie” Lucille Vermette, age 88, of Mt. Morris Township, peacefully passed away on Thursday, February 12, 2026, at McLaren Flint with family by her side.
Billie was born on August 3rd, 1937 to parents George and Agnus Young in Brown City, MI. She was one of four siblings and lived in Michigan for the majority of her life. Billie graduated from Beecher High School in 1955 and married her husband, Joseph “Joe” Albert Vermette, on January 28, 1956. She remained married to Joe until his death in 2022; they were married for 65 years. Billie was an active and social woman and a great lover of animals. She enjoyed spending her time doing various crafting projects, getting her hair and nails done, and spending time with friends, family, and animals.
Billie was preceded in death by her husband, Joe (Al) Vermette, her parents, George and Agnus Young, and her two sisters Janet Flannigan and Mary Brown. She leaves behind a sister, Sheila Moyer, and four children: Charmaine (Tim) Sharkey, Albert Vermette, Sabrina (Henry) Stiles, and Melanie (Bradley) Sullivan. She also leaves behind five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:00am on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, at St. Mary Catholic Church, 11110 Saginaw Street, Mt. Morris. Rev. Fr. Roy Horning to officiate, with burial to follow at Flint Memorial Park Cemetery. On Monday, family will be present to receive friends from 3:00pm until 8:00pm at Martin Funeral, Cremation & Tribute Services, 1194 East Mt. Morris Road, Mt. Morris. At 6:00pm, family, friends, and parish will gather to pray the Rosary. On Tuesday, Billie will be taken to church to lie in state from 10:00am until the time of the Mass at 11:00am. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be sent to either All About Animals Rescue in Flint, MI, or St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Mt. Morris. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home and at church. Expressions of sympathy may be shared with the family on Billie’s tribute wall at martinfuneralhome.com.
