Joyce was born April 26, 1957, in Pontiac, Michigan, she is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William George and Patricia Ann (Bigler) Grubaugh. Educated locally, Joyce graduated from Elisabeth Ann Johnson High School, with the class of 1975. From there Joyce continued her education at Baker College, earning her associate’s degree allowing her to explore her passion in software engineering combined with network administration. Shortly, after graduating, Joyce began working for Hamady Brothers, where she built and maintained their computer network until it was purchased by Kessel Food Markets. Joyce retired from Kessel Food Markets in 1999. In 2009, Joyce being a person of many interests followed her new love and passion for floral designing and opened B’s Flowers Plus in Mt. Morris. In Mt. Morris she met and later married the love of her life, Frank Bartos at St. Mary Catholic Church in Mt. Morris, on September 26, 1981. In order to not be left out of family tradition Frank and herself renewed those vows on July 4, 2021, in Verdigre, Nebraska at St. Wencelaus Catholic Church.
In her free time, Joyce loved spending time with her family. No matter what state or side of the family, she had this gift to inspire a reunion. From the beautiful fountain fireworks out in Nebraska, or the family softball games in Au Gres, Michigan. She further admired time with her grandchildren at Sleepy Oaks, golfing, reading, and riding the side-by-side across the Mackinaw Bridge (Trek the Mighty Mac). Traveling and camping across the US with her husband collecting license plates and coins from the different Moose Lodges added additional excitement. Joyce was an active proud member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Mt. Morris and ran St. Vincent De Paul for a number of years. She was also a long-time member of: Moose Lodge in Flushing 1437, Women of the Moose, Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #3609. In her younger years she was known as a “heckler” of a catcher in Women’s Softball Leagues and channeled that competitive spirit for her community as a teacher and coach then a member of the Mt. Morris-DDA. Joyce had a unmatchable soul and a quick wit, the best of both. She loved making people feel special and guiding them into making the right decision. It was once said that Joyce never met a stranger just a new friend. In leu of sending flowers please donate to the St. Mary’s Altar Society so that others can continue to support the local community the way she has.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Frank; two sons: Frankie Bartos, and Raymond Bartos; five grandchildren; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, in-laws, and her grand pet, Bullseye.
Joyce was preceded in death by her grandparents, parents Patricia and William; and brother, Charles Grubaugh.
