Kelly was born in Flint, on February 1, 1958, the son of Roy and JoAnn (McDonald) Smith. He was educated locally and graduated from EAJ High School with the Class of 1976.
On November 9, 1995, Kelly married the love of his life, Cassie Shelton, in Burton. Together, they built a life filled with love, family, laughter, and countless memories. Kelly was a devoted husband and a proud father and grandfather. Of all the things he enjoyed in life, spending time with his grandchildren held a special place in his heart. He treasured every opportunity to be with them and create memories they will carry with them for years to come.
Kelly was a man who found happiness in the simple things that made life special. He loved spending time at the family cabin in Fife Lake, Michigan, where he could relax, enjoy the outdoors, and make memories with the people he loved. He also enjoyed spending time in his barn, watching NASCAR, taking his side-by-side out for a drive, and listening to Willie’s Roadhouse.
Kelly dedicated 20 years of his working life to Karter Landon. He took pride in his work and in the relationships he built with those around him.
Kelly will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Cassie; four children: Scott (Bethany) Smith, Lindie (Michael) Kamen, Laurie (Dustin) Erwin, and Samantha (Tony) Tullar; six grandchildren: Andilyn, Benjamin, Robert, Wyatt, Layne, and Maddox; siblings: Scarlett (Ryan) Smith, Amy (Jim) Lusk, Brett Smith, and Rusty Smith; special friends: Craig, Adrian, and Karter; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Steve Smith; and sister, Tammy Wittum.
