Mark Earl Alberts was born on July 25, 1954, in Flint, Michigan, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Earl and Mildred (Schillinger) Alberts. Mark graduated from Lake Fenton High School in 1972. Shortly after graduation, he went on to further his education. Not only did he obtain his associate’s degree from Grand Rapids School of the Bible and Music in 1975, he also would earn his bachelor's degree in Christian Education from William Jennings Bryan College in Tennessee in 1979. Upon completing his education, he would work as a pastor for many years before working as the Genesee County Missionary Director for Child Evangelism Fellowship in 1987. Mark would dedicate 30 years of his life spreading the word of God to children, teaching them the importance of love and belief. He would later retire in 2017. Mark met, fell in love with, and married the love of his life, Cynthia “Cindy” Evans on March 1, 1980 at Calvary Bible Church in Mt. Morris, Michigan. The two were blessed with five beautiful children, to whom Mark would love and cherish forever.
Mark’s faith echoed throughout his entire life, not just his studies and work. During his time at Child Evangelism Fellowship, he would volunteer much of his time to extracurricular activities, such as hosting a face painting booth for children at the Genesee County Fair. Mark was also a longtime member of the Mayfair Bible Church in Flushing, Michigan, where he would be a member of the choir group and the Elder Board. Additionally, he volunteered much of his time as a Sunday school teacher, where he would continue to educate children on the Lord and his importance in our lives.
Living his life to the fullest, Mark had many hobbies that he found great joy in. He and his wife would often travel all throughout the country, seeing new landmarks and creating new memories with one another. Many of these trips would include Mount Rushmore, the Grand Canyon, New Orleans, and much more. He also enjoyed camping and hunting, beginning with rabbit hunting as a child with his father. Gifted with his hands and creative mind, Mark would create many beautiful pieces of art through woodworking, including scroll sawing and woodburning. With his craft, he would create many gifts for family and friends, including wishing wells, furniture, a clock, and much more. Additionally, he would hand carve a lighthouse for his and Cindy’s bird sanctuary, where Mark would spend plenty of time watching the birds and other wildlife in his beautiful, perfectly-mowed backyard. In his free time, he would often relax by reading various Western novels, especially ones by Louis L’Amour, as well as cheering on the Detroit Tigers and University of Michigan Wolverines.
Though Mark lived a full and adventurous life, his true pride and joy was his wife, children, and grandchildren. As he watched his children grow up, he enjoyed playing catch, watching them compete in their sports teams, and providing them guidance throughout every new step of life. He also enjoyed creating new traditions for his family to remember him by, including completing jigsaw puzzles with his family every New Years Eve.
Left to cherish his memory is his beloved wife of 45 years: Cindy Alberts; his four children: Anthony Alberts, Angella Kerchner, Adam Flanery-Alberts and wife, Kayleen, Andrew Alberts; his four grandchildren: Madilyn Kerchner, Douglas Kerchner, Daylynn Alberts, Olivia Alberts; his mother-in-law: Kay Evans; his close friend: Jim Aspen II; his canine companion: Rascal; as well as many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and cherished friends.
Mark was preceded in death by his parents: Earl and Mildred Alberts; his son: Aaron Alberts; his granddaughter: Harper Alberts; his sisters: Nancy Olah, Melba Zbik, Norma Kirkland, Dianne Alberts; his niece: Janel Lougheed; his father-in-law: Judge William Evans; and his brother-in-law: David Stace.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to the teams at Cornerstone Caregiving and Heartland Hospice for their care and attention to Mark. Also, a warm thank you to close friend, Mary Lou Craag, for her time and thoughtfulness to Mark and the family.
