Marvis Sordyl

Age 87, of Flint, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, at McLaren-Flint, surrounded by the family she loved so dearly. Mass of Christian Burial will take place 11:00 am Tuesday, September 29, 2026, at Holy Rosary Church, 5191 Richfield Road, Flint, Michigan, 48506. Rev. Fr. Roy Horning will officiate, with burial to follow at New Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Flint.

Marvis’ family will receive friends at Martin Funeral Services, 1194 E. Mt. Morris Road, Mt. Morris, Michigan 48458, on Monday from 2:00 pm until 8:00 pm. On Tuesday morning. Marvis will be taken to the church to lie in state from 10:00 am until the time of Mass at 11:00 am. Marvis was born on February 13, 1939, in Flint, Michigan to Ward and Josephine (Robson) Grow. She was raised in Flint and, in 1959, married the love of her life, Howard Sordyl. The couple exchanged vows on October 3rd at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Flint, beginning a beautiful life together.

Marvis and Howard were blessed with five children. Over the years, their family grew to include grandchildren and great-grandchildren, creating countless cherished memories.

Family was at the heart of Marvis’ life, and she found her greatest joy in being surrounded by those she loved. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, proud grandmother, and caring great-grandmother. She especially treasured caring for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, watching them grow, and sharing in life’s special moments—both big and small.

Marvis found happiness in life’s simple pleasures. She loved cooking and baking, especially when sharing with her family and loved ones. Her home was a welcoming place where loved ones gathered, stories were shared, and lasting memories were made. She expressed her love not only through words, but also through the countless ways she cared for those around her. Marvis leaves a beautiful legacy of love and family. She will be lovingly remembered by her husband: Howard; four daughters: Teresa (Tim); Laura (Tod); Ann Marie (Bob); Mary Kay (Terry); bonus daughter, Rhonda; 11 grandchildren: Steven (Shandel), Andrew, James, Joseph, Joshua, Cori (Ryan), Kent, Claire, Michael (Sidnee), Mitchell, and Adam; two great-grandchildren: Bryson and Carson; sister, Marlene; daughter-in-law, Joan; and many other family members and dear friends.

Although her family will deeply miss her presence, they will carry her love with them through the many memories she created: family gatherings, meals prepared with loving care, love given freely, and countless moments spent caring for those who meant the most to her. Marvis’ greatest gift was the love she gave her family. That love will live on through her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and everyone that was fortunate enough to have known her.

Marvis was preceded in death by her son, David; her parents: Ward and Josephine; her brother, Donald; and son-in-law, Frank.
