Age 86, of Mt. Morris, died October 23, 2024, at McLaren-Flint, with her family by her side. A funeral service will take place at 1:00pm, Wednesday, October 30, 2024, at Martin Funeral, Cremation & Tribute Services in Mt. Morris. Pastor Sarah LaRose-Nettell to officiate with burial to follow at Flint Memorial Park Cemetery. Family will be present to receive friends from 11:00 am until the time of the service at 1:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be considered to the Children’s Miracle Network. Envelopes are available at the funeral home. Muriel was born April 27, 1938, in Atwood, Michigan. She is the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Harry and Ollie (Teboe) Smith. Educated locally, Muriel graduated from Ellsworth High School with the Class of 1956. Shortly after graduating, Muriel would meet the love of her life, Everett Skeel; the couple dated, fell in love and were united in marriage on August 8, 1958. Their union would be blessed with three beautiful daughters. Sadly, he preceded her in death on February 20, 2016. In Muriel’s free time, she loved to knit; she would knit booties for the children born at Hurley Medical Center for many years. She also enjoyed listening to country music, traveling to see her family in Colorado. She was very proud of her daughters and their families which she adored most. Spending time with her family was most important to her. She was also a long-time member and volunteer for the Krapohl Senior Center in Mt. Morris.
Left to cherish her memory are daughters: Ellen Skeel, Connie and husband, William Drummond, and Janet Helms; grandchildren: Krystal Nielsen and husband, Tommy Lopkoff, Michael and wife, Tracey, Melissa and Brittany and husband, Darrell Stanberry; great-grandchildren: Ethan, Olivia, Tauriel, Darien, Gunnar, Mordecai, Barrett, Daenerys, and Macayla; her sister, Barbara; and many other family members and friends.
Muriel was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Everett; her son-in-law, Brad Helms, her sisters, Sally and Ellen; and her sister-in-law, Barbara.
