Susan Jane Southward

Age 82, of Clio, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, at Maple Woods Manor. In accordance with her wishes, cremation has taken place. Her ashes will be laid to rest at Flint Memorial Park at a later date. Expressions of sympathy may be shared with the family on Susan’s tribute wall at martinfuneralhome.com.

Susan Jane Southward was born on September 24, 1943, in Ypsilanti, Michigan, the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Clarence and Margaret (Moran) Southward. She graduated from the Michigan School for the Deaf in Flint, Michigan, in 1961. After her graduation, she lived in Milan, MI. She was employed with Mathers for many years. Susan would later meet and fall in love with William Dawe, who she would spend over 20 years with. The two created countless memories that they would both cherish forever. Sadly, he preceded her in passing in 2002. In her free time, she enjoyed making beautiful quilts, as well as delicious meals and sweet treats. Additionally, she found joy in doing arts and crafts with Bill, and spending time in her garden. During her time at Maple Woods Manor, Susan would love to spend time in the Bingo room with the staff and other residents.

Left to cherish her memory are many beloved nieces and nephews.

Susan was preceded in death by her loving companion, William Dawe; her parents: Clarence and Margaret Southward; her siblings: Edward (Virginia) Southward, William (Shirley) Southward, David Southward, Alice (Bud) Clymer, Audrey Kline, Mary Lou (Stan) Bordine, and Joyce (Frank) Wrobel; her niece, Polly; and her two nephews: David and Tim.
